Carter is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and cytopathology. She earned her medical degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she also completed her residency and fellowship training.

In addition to her roles as medical director of LabCorp’s Atlantic division and discipline director of anatomic pathology and histology/cytology, Dr Carter participates in LabCorp’s National Office of Quality and Science under the direction of the chief medical officer. During her tenure at LabCorp, she has participated in the Scientific Management and Strategic Committee, where she has been involved in reviewing the competitive and breakthrough strategies and planning for cytology and women’s health issues.

Dr Carter is a member of the College of American Pathologists and the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology.
