Allen J. Karp is the senior vice president of Healthcare Management. Mr. Karp has oversight responsibility for Horizon BCBSNJ’s health affairs and clinical operations, pharmacy programs, behavioral health, physician and hospital networks management, and health care delivery, including Horizon BCSBSNJ’s value-based programs.

Mr. Karp has significant health care experience, particularly in building and managing provider networks, clinical operations and medical economics. His innovative approach to health care delivery models provides experienced leadership as Horizon BCBSNJ leads a transformation away from fee-for-service and toward a shared-savings model that rewards physicians and hospitals for quality and cost effective care that improves patient outcomes and their overall health care experience.

Prior to joining Horizon BCBSNJ, Mr. Karp held senior leadership positions with Coventry, Aetna and MedPartners Inc. He served as Senior Vice President at Coventry Healthcare where he headed its national network and the development of the company’s ACO and high performance network strategy. He has implemented numerous innovative reimbursement models with hospitals and physicians.

At Aetna, Allen held the position of Vice President of Healthcare Delivery, where he developed regional and national network strategy and managed provider contracting, clinical operations, and medical economics. As President of the eastern division for MedPartners, he managed large physician group practices and negotiated global capitation contracts with several managed care payers.

Allen earned a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from Rider University and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Wilmington College.
