Carter Cleveland is the Founder & CEO of Artsy, the global platform for discovering and collecting art. Artsy partners with leading museums, international galleries, auction houses, and art fairs to create the world’s largest marketplace for art.Carter founded Artsy in his dorm room when he was a computer science student at Princeton. Carter’s concept — a free website for art powered by The Art Genome Project, a classification system mapping characteristics between artists and artworks as a tool for discovery and learning — earned him second place in a school competition and funding to assemble Artsy’s founding team of engineers and art specialists. Artsy now has over 180 employees; has raised over $100M in funding backed by influential figures in art, technology, and business; and has grown a user base from more than 190 countries. Carter was chosen by Forbes to headline the Art & Style category of its annual “30 Under 30” list (2014) and has been included in Art + Auction's "Power List" and Business Insider's “Rising Stars of New York Tech.” Carter has guest lectured at Princeton University, and spoken at conferences such as DLD, the World Economic Forum’s CEO Workshop Series, and World’s Fair Nano.
