David A. Breach serves as the President and Chief Operating Officer for Vista Equity Partners. Breach was named President of the company in August of 2021. He originally joined the firm in 2014 as Chief Operating Officer. He sits on Vista’s Executive Committee, the Private Equity Management Committee and the Private Equity Funds Committee. Prior to joining Vista, Breach was a Senior Corporate Partner with Kirkland & Ellis LLP, where his practice focused on the representation of private equity funds, including the technology sector. Notably, he was Kirkland’s lead partner representing Vista. Breach was a member of Kirkland’s 15-person global executive management committee and was a founding partner of Kirkland’s San Francisco office. During his tenure at Kirkland, the firm’s Northern California practice grew to approximately 250 employees. In 2013, Breach was named a Law 360 MVP of the Year for his role as lead counsel on over 45 private equity deals valued at more than $1 billion. His rating at his time of departure from the firm was “Tier 1” for the state of California by Chambers & Partners, which independently and objectively compiles a list of America's Leading Lawyers for Business. Breach retains his Bar Association memberships in California, Illinois and Michigan.

Prior to joining Kirkland & Ellis, Breach was recruited in 1994 by what was then Honigman Miller LLP (now rebranded as Honigman, a top-ranked law firm in Chicago). Breach graduated magna cum laude with a J.D. that year from the University of Michigan School of Law, where he became a member of the Order of the Coif. Breach began his legal studies at the Detroit College of Law, and he earned his BBA at Eastern Michigan University.

Breach is credited with helping Vista scale its foundational strategies, programs and processes to help support and accelerate growth in assets under management, investment strategies, firm operations and overall institutionalization of the firm. He also contributed to the advancement of Vista’s governance strategy, led the development and expansion of Vista Credit Partners, Vista’s permanent capital strategy and Vista Equity Partners Perennial and sponsored and evolved the firm’s ESG and DE&I programs.

Breach lives in Austin, Texas. He and his wife, Emily Breach, support communities through various philanthropic endeavors, particularly those that benefit students. Through the Breach Family Foundation, they committed $5 million in 2020 to create and endow the David A. Breach Deanship at Michigan Law. The funds are being used by the current incumbent to support racial justice initiatives.
