Maha is a diplomate of the American Board of Medical Genetics in the category of PhD medical geneticist. He is also certified as a medical technologist (MT) by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) and as a laboratory director by the New York State Department of Health in the categories of clinical chemistry, forensic identity, genetic testing, histocompatibility, immunohematology, parentage/identity testing, and transplant monitoring.Dr Maha received his PhD from the Department of Genetics and Development at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and his JD from the North Carolina Central University School of Law in Durham. He also completed a biomedical laboratory internship at Malcolm Grow USAF Medical Center.Dr Maha was an observer to the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws’ revision of the Uniform Parentage Act, was vice chair of the Paternity Committee of the American Bar Association's Family Law Section, and was chair of—and is currently a consultant to—the Relationship Testing Standards Program Unit for AABB. Dr Maha is also a member of the Histocompatibility/Identity Testing Committee of the College of American Pathologists.Dr Maha has been admitted as an expert in genetic testing in more than 100 trials in 24 states. He has published and given numerous presentations on various scientific and legal aspects of relationship testing and histocompatibility testing, including pregnancy tests through transplant monitoring and scientific and legal aspects of paternity/relationship testing.
