Dr. MacDonald has had a distinguished career in the technology community in British Columbia as co-founder of MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates, serving as President and CEO for 13 years and Chairman for a subsequent 16 years. Dr. MacDonald currently serves as Chairman of Day4 Energy Inc., a Vancouver-based BCDF portfolio company developing solar power generation solutions. He has served on numerous other technology company boards and continues to do so. He is an advisor to Canadian, U.S. and other governments internationally on science, technology and industrial policy, currently serving on the Canadian Department of National Defence Science Advisory Board. Dr. MacDonald is a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. and of the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute. Dr. MacDonald was a professor at UBC and MIT for 12 years prior to founding MacDonald Dettwiler. He has been awarded eight Honorary Degrees, the Order of Canada in 1988, was named one of "50 most influential British Columbia business leaders of the 20th Century" in 1999, one of "100 Top British Columbians of the 20th Century" in 1999 and "Entrepreneur of the Year" in 1995. Dr. MacDonald holds a Ph.D. of Electrical Engineering from MIT, a Masters of Science from MIT and a Bachelor of Science degree with honours from UBC.
