Paulo Maia was appointed Chief Executive of Latin America, HSBC with effect from 1 July 2015. He is responsible for all of HSBC’s operations in the region and is also Chairman of HSBC Argentina and Executive Chairman of Grupo Financiero HSBC Mexico.

Mr Maia was appointed Group Managing Director on 19 February 2016.

His previous roles include: President and CEO of HSBC Bank Canada; CEO of HSBC Bank Australia, and Deputy CEO of HSBC Bank Brasil. He is currently a Board Director of HSBC USA. He became Group General Manager in 2013.

Mr Maia joined HSBC in 1993 and has more than 30 years’ experience in the financial services industry across retail, commercial and corporate banking. He started his career in his native Brazil and has worked in the US, UK, Australia and Canada. He is now based in Mexico.

Mr Maia holds an MS in industrial engineering and a BS in mechanical engineering, both from the Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
