Polo Shao has been chief risk officer of Alibaba Group since June 2012.

He is responsible for driving, building and enhancing the Group’s risk management system to ensure sustainable, healthy and effective organizational development. As Group secretary, Polo also facilitates strategic collaboration among different businesses under Alibaba Group.

Polo has extensive experience in network security, e-commerce, online transaction and payment.

He joined Alibaba Group in March 2005 as Director of the Network Security Department, building a security management system and a team of network security professionals for,

Taobao,

Alipay from scratch.

His work successfully laid a solid foundation in risk management for Alibaba Group.

In February 2007, he was appointed Vice President of Taobao, responsible for Taobao’s strategic development planning, overall marketing and business modeling.

Prior to joining Alibaba Group, Polo was a renowned criminal investigator in China.

He holds an EMBA degree from China Europe International Business School.
